Minooka knocks off pair of ranked teams

NEW LENOX - Minooka defeated two ranked teams Saturday en route to a 3-0 showing at the Lincoln-Way Central varsity wrestling duals.

“Today was a great day for the Indians,” said Minooka coach Bernie Ruettiger. “We beat the No. 7 ranked team today, Edwardsville (by a 29-28 final), and a very tough Lyons LaGrange team who is also ranked (28-25). I was very pleased with the way we wrestled. What's great (is) we haven't wrestled our best yet.”

Brian Bokoski (112) won by pinfall for the Indians against Edwardsville in 1:18, as did Nick Bain (130) in 57 seconds and Mike Alberico (145) in 42 seconds. Ryan Warczynski (140) captured a 15-0 technical-fall victory as Leo Ruettiger (103) won a 2-0 decision and Joeie Ruettiger (119) won a 4-3 decision.

Technical fall winners from Minooka against Lyons were Bokoski (112) 20-5 and Warczynski (140) 16-1. Winners via decision were Leo Ruettiger (103) 9-5, Joeie Ruettiger (119) 7-6, Marcus Rangel (125) 5-3, Bain (130) 6-3, Derek Nurkowski (160) 3-1 and Cody Jones (285) 5-4.

Pin victors from Minooka in its 77-6 defeat of Metamora were Leo Ruettiger (103) in 1:27, Bokoski (112) in 1:15, Rangel (125) in 1:36, Bain (130) in 1:37, Warczynski (140) in 3:56, Alberico (145) in 1:10, Steve Cervac (152) in 1:10 and Derek Wilson (189) in 1:22. Joeie Ruettiger (119) won a 17-2 technical fall as Joe Schuett (171) won an 11-3 major decision, Brandon Haase (215) won an 8-0 major decision and Jones (285) won by forfeit.
